Are we Undead?

Well, this was brought up in the Chatbox, so I am going to post it here. Are we undead? We aren't alive and then come to life, which is like being undead, after all you are no longer dead.
But I have to say No. After all, to be undead, one must first Die, and do that you must be living in the first place. Hence, being born, is just coming to life the first time, once you die and then come back, I will call you undead.

Agreed. Our definition of the word "dead" does not apply to the time before we were born. We may have been without life, yes, but we were not "dead" in the true sense of the word. Therefore without every being truly dead it would be illogical to call ourselves undead once we are given life for the first time.

And I noticed that for the most part we don't dumbly stagger around eating human flesh, which is a fairly common side effect of being an undead.

Flesh craving is a myth and also... drugs can make you like that too... Also undead ftw >.> We were once without life and if your one of those religious types you'd think there's life after death which means undeadness so it really depends on your aspect of life/death and after/un life/death

okay this is really confusing...
but when i hear the words "undead" i think it means living... which is what we are... now for instance, "Night of the living dead" -- a horror movie -- makes more sense then "Night of the Undead". Now to me, living dead just sounds better than Undead... you have your un.. which means not in my vocabulary.. and dead... which means no longer living in my vocabulary as well... put those to words together and you get not no longer living, two negatives = a positive :O

But those words together would mean, that you were dead, and then (un) no longer dead. Which is an undead, one who was dead, but then came back to "life."

'Un' does mean 'not' and also 'was but now is not' and also 'has never been' and more if I felt like divulging you to their existance.

I had meant this as a debate on whether or not we are undead, not whether or not certain words mean certain things, and the poor state of our language.

An important part of determining whether we are undead or not is the way we define the word. I looked it up on merriam webster but found only links to the definition of "vampire" and "zombie"

So much for professional help with the definition then..

A vampire is technically one of the undead, in more conventional ways. As besides being bitten by another vampire, a bat can fly over your grave during your funeral or other such things.
A zombie has never died, despite common misconception, a zombie is stuck between life and death, for example, a person is dying, but before death leeches the life of another being, hence allowing it to live longer, but not to the full extent of life, and it must continue with consuming the life force of others.
